Let’s start the weekend with a tune that’s both soft and warm, shall we? Especially here, in the Northern Hemisphere, where warmth is scarce at this time of the year, music can do wonders.
Here’s “Food for the Angels” by Groove Xanadu. A French-American group of like-minded individuals whose mission is to bring a rich, soulful blend of jazz and funky moods to the world. Initiated by Michael D. Amitin, an American expat living in Paris, Groove Xanadu took shape in the winter of 2023-2024. Their self-titled album was released in March 2025, featuring seven tracks. As Michael explains: “The name of the group and the self-titled song happened spontaneously. I came up with the song’s groove and immediately thought of music as paradise, which – as you may know – Xanadu is latin for paradise”.
“Food for the Angels” includes soothing vocals by one of the band’s two singers, Cerenia Capouix. Perfectly fitting the jazz-induced arrangement, Cerenia brings that extra warmth to the mix, making the entire song a positively relaxing experience. The result is a calming sensation of pure bliss which goes in line with the story behind the song itself. As explained by Michael: “My wife has Algerian roots. She told me that when one moves into a new house, it is customary to toss crumbs of bread by the front door to offer food for the angels for protection for the new inhabitants.”
Having listened to the group’s entire album, I feel that this mix of multi-cultural influences is at the core of their approach to sound. While definitely refreshing, it also serves as a proof that such multiple connections can only bring good, both in music and, most importantly, in life itself. Groove Xanadu is the best example of how well it can work, inspire, and bring a peaceful moment to our minds.
