Music which sources its inspirations from multiple genres is, clearly, my biggest weakness. So, when I heard Peter Lord’s latest single, “GO”, my heart stopped for a fraction of a second.
A bit of introduction for some, a reminder for others. Peter Lord is a founding member of The Family Stand, whose song, “Ghetto Heaven”, was a major hit back in 1990. As a songwriter, Peter has over 600 recorded works on his account, from Paula Abdul to Nicki Minaj, Common to D’Angelo to Macy Gray. Some impressive stuff, innit?
Back to “GO”, it is a melting pot of various vibes, blending various genres into one unique mould. With the soulful vocals, almost gospel-like, Peter Lord introduces electronica and rock as their unexpected backdrop. The fusion resulting from this combination is quite frankly pretty breathtaking. “GO” is perhaps not a song which you can digest in one go (pun intended), but that’s for the better. The tune makes you come back to it and dissect its various elements with awe and admiration for the songwriter’s creativity.
“GO” is part of a larger body of music called “Songs From The 8th Dimension”. If you like what you hear below, the rest of the songs will appeal to you, too. So, enjoy the eclectic world of Peter Lord’s musical world, and don’t forget to breathe.
