The Sound of Paros “My Foolish Heart”

A little jazz-infused flashback anyone? Not that “little”, though, as it is one of the most cherished ballads in the jazz repertoire. Originally composed back in 1949, “My Foolish Heart” receives a new life in this rendition by The Sound of Paros. One that’s worth investing six minutes of your life to experience this beauty.

Featuring Nefeli Fasouli on vocals, and Franco Ambrosetti on flugelhorn, The Sound of Paros’ version starts with a delicate play between the Rhodes piano and the vocals resulting in the sound which is both fleeting and sensual. Like a butterfly which will disappear if you touch its wings. Yes, it’s that poetic. And the song’s further development brings a slow, gradual build-up to the flugelhorn solo making the entire tune sparkle with jazzy magic.

“My Foolish Heart” is the second preview of the band’s upcoming album, “SPACETIME”, which will premiere on the 7th November. Referred to by its authors as “a musical journey spanning cultures and generations, inspired by the island” of Paros, it makes the wait slightly unbearable. Well, patience is not my strongest suit when it comes to music premieres.

Either way, The Sound of Paros are preparing us for an incredible jazz-themed feast, with a touch of Mediterranean flavours and that already mentioned poetry. It will indeed be hard to wait until 7th November but I am pretty sure there is a reward at the end of this impatient anticipation. As the song goes, “it’s love this time, it’s love, my foolish heart!”
