Em Prada “El Bohío”

Music which sounds like therapy. Therapeutic qualities coming from music. For Em Prada, a Venezuelan singer-songwriter, these seem to be two faces of the same coin. “I hope to bring awareness to mental health”, says Em, “and to be a beacon of hope for those who struggle.” It is quite inspiring to hear such words from someone at the beginning of their musical journey.

Em’s influences come from all the places she has called home at some stage in her life. Venezuela, Miami, Boston, Spain, London. Experiencing travel and becoming truly “international” is in a way the greatest mind-opener one can learn from. Especially if you carry a strong passion for world healing and self-exploration. The different cultures you soak up during your journey will enrich your creativity. And they will change you forever.

“El Bohío”, Em Prada’s second single is a beautiful jazzy fusion which is both comforting and relaxing. “The song came to me to heal me”, says Em. “And it felt like a message sent to me.” Its piano-based melody, enriched with flute and saxophone, represents that concept, making it incredibly irresistible. These delicate instrumental touches, oscillating around the world music inspirations, escape obvious comparisons to one specific genre. And this is the song’s indisputable strength. A healing message coming from someone else’s heart, transformed by someone else’s voice, and bringing a true peace to the listener’s soul. What more could you expect?

“What I want, I already have”, goes the song’s chorus, performed entirely in Spanish. Sounding like a mantra, repeated numerous times, it becomes a healing balm of sorts. There is so much intentional “quietness” here, so much love for music and appreciation for life, and for everyone who at some stage participated in recording of this song. You can almost hear the palpable gratitude coming through the sounds. And this is, truly, the most important reason why I keep coming back to “El Bohío”. I just cannot get enough of its magic and beauty.
