Today’s Sunday tune will keep you on your toes as soon as you realise that its jazzy beginning is not where it is going to at all. “Lush Life” is the first single from Sandi King’s solo album “Departure”, out on 22nd October. It is a tribute to her late father, a jazz trumpeter Ron King.
Musically, a monumental fusion of jazz and rock, “Lush Life’s” intensifying emotions keep building up until the sax solo after the second chorus. Wait for it, do not skip, and you will be rewarded with an explosion of feelings. It is one of those tracks that keeps its emotional promise and delivers pure goosebumps in a truly enormous, powerful way. Impressive and addictive at the same time!
With twelve more tracks to fill up the upcoming album, the expectations are increasingly high, although one should not forget the actual intention behind Sandi’s solo release. In her own words: “This record was another step in the grieving process for me, being able to reinvigorate these songs would have been such a thrill to my dad.” So, indeed, it feels very empowering to realise that this grieving process goes through a stage of a real celebration of life. And the celebration of music as well, the music which never dies.
For those of you living in the San Diego area, the special event of a Listening Party has been planned for Sunday, 6th October at The Jazz Lounge. If you happen to be there, please share your photos with me in the comments below!
