The Abominatron is a cool word for what you are about to hear as this is how Bob Moog referred to his own creation. He is even sampled here talking about this iconic synth, emotionless, almost cold-hearted.
Yet it was the MOOG synth which has had one of the biggest impacts on the history of electronic music, and Jim Godfrey’s “The Abominatron” is a true tribute to this amazing instrument. Inspired by bands such as Air, Hot Chip and Public Service Broadcasting, this tune is like a trip through the evolution of electronic sounds.
“The Abominatron” is part of a 3-piece EP which premiered a few weeks ago. In Jim’s own words, his approach was to “blend the Moog sounds with the piano and vocal samples in a way that sounds authentic to their heritage”. This goal has been achieved without any unnecessary idolising, in a way that’s modern but also slightly tongue-in-cheek, which you will understand when you listen to the final lines of the title track itself.
