“I’m a mixed kid, with mixed feelings, who mixed funk, pop, and rock”, says Naya Sego about her debut single “Showing Off”. So, that’s it? Nothing else to discover? Definitely not!
Naya calls herself a Siren and a Pirate of the independent music scene. Sirens attack people with their voice. Pirates go from island to island, and take the best from each place they go. Clear enough? I hope not!
The ultimate mystery of Naya’s music lies therefore in the complexity (and fun!) of her approach to music. Groovy bass lines, catchy guitar riffs, and a voice that somehow reminisces of Lilly Allen. Regardless of what really may have inspired “Showing Off”, it’s one of those songs that is difficult to be labelled with a word, or two. And that’s probably the greatest treasure of Naya’s musical offering. Unpredictability, eclecticism, and an undoubted sense of what pop music is supposed to represent on the surface.
But that’s not it. The underlying layers are for yourselves to discover.
