I have to admit, I am a sucker for a good Bond-inspired tune. My personal favourites are those more “recent” ones – “GoldenEye”, “Tomorrow Never Dies” or “Skyfall”. In other words, a good pop song, with a monumental orchestral arrangement. With “Silver Linings” by a German composer, Stefan Schulzki, it is also down to the mysterious strings and brass instruments recorded by the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra, combined with the seemingly cold vocals by Shelley H.
Bond vibes for sure!
Stefan Schulzki’s ambition has been to combine pop and classical flavours. Not an easy task, but in the case of “Silver Linings” the delivery is tasteful, slightly atmospheric and with a dash of cinematic mystery. As he says himself: “I had a growing secret wish to combine all my tendencies in one distinctive personal style”.
Having listened to some of Stefan’s other tracks, one can say with certainty that he is on the right track. Add to it some slight Hooverphonic vibes, reminiscing of their early albums, and you will have an interesting image of a modern composer who successfully reaches out for occasional classical inspirations.
