Sander Clasen “Clean”

You might have noticed that I love discovering new artists. There is nothing better in my life than that moment when a new song, or a voice I have previously not heard before, fires up all my synapses, all at the same time.

You might have noticed that I love discovering new artists. There is nothing better in my life than that moment when a new song, or a voice I have previously not heard before, fires up all my synapses, all at the same time. What does it feel like? Like a shot of electricity right through your spinal cord. A sudden excitement. And an uncontrollable urge to share this discovery with someone else right away. So, here is me discovering, and sharing. Meet Sander Clasen and his latest song, “Clean”.

Raised between southern Spain and Barcelona, Sander Clasen is a singer-songwriter with a rare quality of captivating attention straight away. Blending soul with folk, he also incorporates elements of Spanish influences, including flamenco. This beautiful combination of vibes would be just that, though, without the final piece of Sander’s musical puzzle. The incomparably shining timbre of his voice.

“Clean”, the song, has come a long way before its official release last week. It was written four years ago and spent the last two years in production. No wonder Sander refers to it as one of his most personal songs. The final result is strikingly impressive. Echoing of the songs performed by Joe Cocker, which is a high praise on its own, it explores the moment we leave something behind. Something that no longer defines us.

Giving “Clean” a listen is not an option but a must. Sander himself references the likes of Michael  Kiwanuka, Leon Bridges, Black Pumas, and Rag’n’Bone Man. While these are all respectable influences, I would not dismiss the singer himself as the main act here. No further comparisons required. Sander Clasen is a reference point on his own. One that stays, and one that comes back as an indismissable proof of an enormous talent. And a voice which is not only unique in its colour, but also in the message it conveys. Pure soul which is trying to rip its chest open every single time the voice tries to sing.

These are some serious emotions we are talking about here. So, don’t take my word for it. Just hit “Play”.
