Jazz aficionados of Luxembourg and the area, this undeniably exciting treat is for you! Veda Bartringer, a Luxembourgish guitarist and composer, is about to release her new album via a performance at the Philharmonie. 6th of June is the date to save.
With the project getting a new name of Veda & the String Machine, it also signifies a new direction in the artist’s musical interests. Titled “Rise and Shine”, the album introduces a string quartet alongside Veda’s jazz band. Effortlessly blending a myriad of influences, from all things jazz, to elements of blues or rock, it is an event you will not want to miss. An absolutely special sonic feast, deeply emotional and musically intense. Believe me – a I have already heard the entire album. “Rise and Shine” is a work of an open-minded musician who is not afraid to search and take risks in order to create something new and exciting. The beauty of it lies in the exploration of themes which touch on an emotional and personal levels. Almost fully instrumental, the music communicates through images translated to soundscapes, corresponding to various snapshots of memories. To complete the final picture, Veda also invited special guests to participate in the project. The celebrated Syrian-French flutist Naïssam Jalal makes an appearance on the album’s title track, while the Belgian pianist Margaux Vranken plays on “Rue de l’Étuve”.
On the visual side, the album is also accompanied by a beautifully cinematic video made for the opening track, titled “Ancestors”. Featuring a deep, grounding rhythm, it is a tribute to those who came before us. An expression of gratitude and honour for being part of the same bloodline. It is that connection of fleeting threads which connect past, present and future which makes this particular track stand out.
While the are more highlights on Veda’s genius album, including the mind-blowing title track (a must-listen for sure!), it is the consistent quality of the sonic delivery which takes the central place. The undeniable sense of awe for life, respect for the family roots and appreciation of memories which eventually replace people on the family tree. There is a lot to discover here. From delicate musical phrases to playful grooves, with all elements fitting the final puzzle – life. As simple, and as complicated as it sounds.
