Sliding Words “Blacksmith (Radio Edit)”

This slowly unraveling tune acts like a wormhole leading to a different reality. Hypnotically atmospheric, it sucks you in from the first seconds of the mysterious soundscape sounds. Vocals function here as a paintbrush adding colour to a trippy background. Unsurprisingly, this French duo cites Massive Attack, Archive and Portishead as their main influences.

“This track was born from a desire to sculpt sound like a blacksmith shapes metal, slowly, intensely, with precision,” explain Sliding Words. What you can hear is a direct representation of this goal. Intense basslines, trip hop inspired beats, and haunted vocals with some pitch-shifting.

“Blacksmith” is one pleasant trip down through the aforementioned wormhole. To a place where sonic structure is merely a concept, a starting point, if you will. There are no verses or obvious choruses here. Instead, you are getting a dreamy journey into your own self, to a reality in which your interpretation is key to understanding the sound. Challenging and rewarding at the same time.
