One of the first cool discoveries of 2026, is this delicate tune by Alice Ballinari. This Swiss singer-songwriter released her debut EP on the 9th January. “Better Day” is the closing track on this collection of slightly jazzy, soulful experimentations cleverly disguised as songs.
“Better Day” combines elements of RnB vocals, with some soft drum’n’bass beats making this fusion an intimate yet an expressive experience. The addition of the string quartet melodies opens up the space, making the sounds overflow the limitations of the genre. This quest for constantly sounding experimental seems to be at the heart of Alice’s approach to sound. Rules are meant to be broken or, at the very least, challenged. And this is the spot-on description of what you can hear. Even in a song as seemingly fragile and introspective as “Better Day”.
At the centre of this concept lies Alice’s goal to try and express the struggles of the new generation of people just like her, far from home. “Will there always be uncertainty, a puzzle to solve?”, she wonders. “Or is there a way to find some peace?”
One thing is certain. With a debut as classy as this, we are up for a nice treat further down the line. I am pretty sure that Alice Ballinari will not let us forget about herself and her out-of-the-box musical ideas.
And it is indeed super nice to start the year on such a positive note.

The song is fine, but it doesn’t sound like something I’d relisten in near future. 😶🌫️
Greetings.
Interesting! But, you know, “de gustibus…”, etc. 🙂 I actually found this track fitting my mood very well, and I played it on repeat several times 😉
