Davide Carbone “Version of Us”

Is there such a thing as an intimate drum and bass? Well, it seems so, and it is doing quite alright. Davide Carbone, with his latest single, proves that DnB can be both energetic and introspective, or even melancholic. With Kate Watts on the vocals, Davide’s new song, “Version of Us” is a version of drum and bass which takes us on an inward journey to emotions we usually try to hide. Or experience them on our own. Worry, anxiety, sadness. Released today, the tune continues to explore this darker and fragile side of our minds.

Musically, a light fusion of future bass-sounding synths and warm DnB beats, “Version of Us” tells a story of love which is far from perfect. “Stuck in a Twilight Zone”, as explained by the song’s protagonist, the tune leads us through feelings of sad despair, and pure loneliness. Making it more of a drum and bass ballad, for the lack of a better word. And I must say, I like the fact that DnB’s come back to the mainstream is not necessarily club-ready. And that it delves into emotions which are not necessarily associated with the genre.

Turning “Version of Us” into more of a personal, intimate experience, makes it perfect for a late evening listening session. One that is intentionally further away from the dancing crowds and closer to a nightly contemplation. That moment when the demons of the day vanish, and the sleep takes over our minds. Nice, right? And quite intriguing, too!
