A beautiful power ballad with a surprisingly dark core. If I was to describe Scott Quinn’s latest single in one sentence, that would be it. This British singer-songwriter, currently dividing his time between London and Berlin, seems to have mastered the art of touching listeners’ feelings with complicated combinations of contrasting emotions. It should not come as a surprise then, that this brilliantly talented Artist has already co-written songs for such international acts as BTS, Zara Larsson or Steve Aoki.
“Loving you is easy – it’s you loving you that’s hard” goes the chorus of Scott’s latest release. This touching confession brings a tormenting dilemma to the song’s protagonist, painting a picture of love and distress. It is lyrics like these that make songs true songs, the ones that resonate with us deeply, the ones that we most often relate to when times are not too bright. The realness of Scott’s honesty is what makes listeners stay, or come back to a song to re-experience the emotion. Just like his previous single, “Right at the Wrong Time”, with almost 120 thousand listens on Spotify.
It is not different with “Loving You Is Easy”. I would even dare say that, given the mood which boils underneath the surface of the pop arrangement, it hits more precisely at the core of one’s personal response to Scott’s music. Raw, painful and straight to the heart. As much as, sometimes, we would prefer to avoid it, there is no escaping the thought lingering at the back of our heads as the song fades out. Love is powerful. It can uplift. It can destroy. As simple, and as complicated as that.
