The Low Stakes Band “Philadelphia”

Today’s new music alert is a premiere of “Philadelphia” by The Low Stakes Band. This minimalistic folk tune smells of a freshly baked nostalgia first thing in the morning. Somewhere between early Ani DiFranco and a stripped-down version of “American Pie”, this melancholic trip down memory lane was recorded in one take, capturing a quietly emotional moment. Full of lingering sentimentalism, it tells a story separated by quiet breaths and delicate sounds of an acoustic guitar.

“Philadelphia” is a moment frozen in time. A song so ethereal that it would most likely disappear if it was a tiny bit softer. Yet, this is where most of its beauty is hidden. A tune that makes you stop, listen, contemplate and reminisce. We don’t really listen to songs like this anymore, do we? We don’t have the time, we lack the attention. And, oh!, it has no beat! In this day and age?!

Putting my sarcastic outburst aside, do approach “Philadelphia” with kind attention. Don’t let it break because it’s fragile. Take care of yourself, while listening to it, nurture the sounds and the emotions that will emerge with every single word of the story. “Philadelphia” is a true eye-opener. A reminder that we had left the musical beauty behind due to the lack of time. How could we do it to ourselves?

Well, press “PLAY”, and find out.
