With the jazzy mix of his latest track “Lost in the Lights”, a DJ, producer and a radio host, B. de Carey, makes a new statement in relation to the house music from two decades ago. Written and produced as a reference to one of his favourite bands, Blue Six, he embraces a soulful and jazzy house that the aforementioned band made its mark with back in the 2000s.
“Lost in the Lights” tells a story of a girl lost in an Asian megalopolis while looking for her boyfriend. Close your eyes while listening to it, and the imagination will take you to a busy city at night. Full of neon lights, busy pedestrian crossings and the general feeling of being overwhelmed by the noise and commotion.
Providing a fitting background to this story, is a house beat embroidered with jazzy elements, which – in this particular case – contribute to the feeling of being lost, yet not frightened, but more intrigued by what’s waiting around the next corner of an unknown city.
The house music of the night, as I would call it, is perhaps a bit darker when compared to the current productions in this genre. But at the same time it creates a unique listening experience, making your emotions surrounded by energising beats in a sort-of safe mode.
At the end of the day, it is a pleasant escape. One that does not force you to dance, but evokes feelings of comfort and of being intrigued by the story-telling.
