How often does it happen to you to listen to a song and immediately love every single bit of it from start to finish? Pretty rare occurrence, isn’t it? Yet such miracles happen when you least expect them, which is another great thing about them. They are more appreciated this way, more cherished, and remembered forever.
So, here’s Lachi’s acoustic version of her song “Diseducation”. In addition to being an amazing singer and songwriter, Lachi is also the visionary CEO of RAMPD (Recording Artists and Music Professionals with Disabilities). As such, “Diseducation” isn’t just a song. It is a movement to rewrite the narrative around disability. “If you’re here to underestimate me, let me dis-educate you on that notion!” says Lachi. “Disability is not all about trauma and tragedy; it’s about independence and joy.”
Musically oscillating around acoustic jazz, “Diseducation” is one of the proudest and happiest songs I have ever heard. Empowering and goosebumps-inducing, it is an amazing statement against ableism, but also, quite frankly, about any form of discrimination. The joy that this song contains will leave you feeling uplifted and proud of who you are. Simple message, undeniably true, but delivered in a way which is truly extraordinary and unique, just like each and every one of us. So let’s share it, own it, and spread it further. It’s worth more than you can think.
