Sons of Siri “The Constant Doer”

Cold snowy weather is not only the best time for jazzy Christmas tunes or warmingly relaxing lo-fi tracks, but in my head, it’s also an opportunity to discover chilling trip hop and downtempo. That’s when I instinctively look for darker vibes, the sounds of early sunsets, and the mysterious evenings which linger slowly, creating introspective moods that require an appropriate musical backdrop.

“The Constant Doer” by Sons of Siri marks the beginning of such a period for me. This Swedish project draws inspiration from the usual suspects, Portishead, Tricky and Massive Attack. The song’s mysterious but soothing atmosphere features vocals by Ester from an indie band “Shivvy”. Haunting and intriguing, they create a dark, almost hypnotic soundscape which tastes best on a constant repeat.

Listening to Sons of Siri makes me feel happy that trip hop seems to be making a slow, behind-the-scenes comeback. It indicates that we all need a bit different vibe these days. Not a constant banging of mainstream hits, but a quiet moment to ourselves, to contemplate, to meditate, to be a bit more mindful in the present. I am equally happy to be part of this returning movement myself, so – watch this space.
