Like a lighthouse guiding ships to a port, this romantic folk ballad brings sufficient amounts of warm light to share between all of us. Performed by a singer-songwriting duo of a father and a son, it’s not your typical love song, but it aspires to extend its parallels to the human spirit, and “its unshakable faith in the power of love to guide us through the darkest of times”.
“Don’t forget to leave the light on” is an acoustic breather from the pains of everyday life. It carries its message on the waves of folky sounds which deliver it with a sense of familiar cosiness, full of hope and trust, and that amazing feeling of finding oneself in the arms of a loved one.
As an opening track of a just-released EP, it is also an invitation to explore our own vulnerabilities and our own sensitivities in the presence of love – something that we often need to remind ourselves about. After all, and hopefully without falling into too much of a cliché, this is the ultimate feeling that so many of us keep searching for.
