October has been for me hands-down the most sentimental month of this year so far. I blame my first trip to Iceland for this floaty emotion, the sights of ice cold waterfalls, melting glaciers and continuous references to Björk and her music. So, the fact that this month’s Mood Board playlist begins with “Play Dead” should not come as a surprise at all.
I did find time for discovering new music, too, as documented at the link below, and thoroughly enjoyed the two songs featured here. “Adult.Era” by Nü and “Den som blir” by ILKAMA.
There was room for other premieres too. My favourite song from Halsey’s album “The Great Impersonator” called “Arsonist”, dark, gloomy and delicious trippy. The best track from Bishop Briggs’ album – a mega energetic “Shut It Off”. And one of the saddest love songs ever written by Celeste, “Strange”, here in the live version recorded at Union Chapel.
Everything around and in between is full of sentiments, though. Alanis Morissette’s “Tapes”, Sade’s “Somebody Already Broke My Heart”, and Madonna’s collaboration with Massive Attack from 1995 – a trip hop cover of Marvin Gaye’s “I Want You”, with that gloomy sound of an unanswered telephone, and the black-and-white video which has been haunting me since the first time I had seen it.
So, yes, this month’s eclectic mix might take you to dark places but it was definitely meant as a treat, rather than a trick.
And as always, enjoy the music and share your impressions in the comments below.
