Chris Murray & Soul Frequency “I Just Dropped By To Say Hello”

Christmas comes early this year with the release of Chris Murray’s rendition of “I Just Dropped By To Say Hello”, originally performed by Johnny Hartman. Even though not really an Xmas song, this type of relaxing jazz music always puts me in the festive mood, full of tinsel and tiny blinking lights, which – in my head – announce the beginning of the wintery season and anticipate a ton of neatly wrapped presents.

Based in Philadelphia, Chris Murray is a soulful jazz and blues singer who is referencing Nat Kind Cole, Al Jarreau and Whitney Houston as his music influences. Backed by a band called Soul Frequency, they perform jazz, R&B and latin music. With an album release planned for January 2025, you may expect more jazz classics coming your way.

What I like about Chris’ version of “I Just Dropped By To Say Hello” is the effortless way of singing in a retro manner which makes your sentiments come alive immediately. It’s this dreamy type of performing which makes you drift away with a cup of hot chocolate in your hands, and observe the world in almost slow motion fashion. If you need a fluffy, cosy break from life, this song is definitely for you.
