The return of drum and bass into the mainstream is for me, personally, a highlight of this decade. Back in time, somewhere between Goldie and Adam F’s “Colours” album, I thought dnb would be the music of the future. Its insane beats combined with atmospheric synthesisers, weirdly enough, have always made me feel relaxed. And so I did, for all these years, patiently wait for the big come back. And boy, have I been rewarded.
Here’s an example. Pascal Rubinstein’s “Can’t Be Tamed”, with its unmistakable Prodigy feel, is one of the contenders in this new wave of drum-and-bassers who bring the well known, but slightly forgotten, sounds back to our ears.
Pascal’s snappy energy and his bold beat making makes “Can’t Be Tamed” a very pleasant experience. With its vibrant spirit and the raw energy driving his passion for music, he brings exactly that into the new mix – passion. Without that passion there would be no pushing the limits, no real enthusiasm and, frankly speaking, no interest. But here we have a lot of it, and that makes me happy. Just have a listen.
