Diya Shanmugaraj “Blow The Blue Away”

I will be honest and I’ll confess that the very first time I heard “Blow The Blue Away”, I was pretty sure that the chorus would end up somewhere between trap and EDM. Boy, was I wrong. At 14 years old, well, let me repeat that, at just 14, Diya knows exactly what she wants, and where she wants to be, and it’s none of the above. Instead, she’ll take you on a warm journey through soft pop, chilled vibes and, perhaps, why not, who knows, she might end up being the next Sade Adu one day.

Having debuted last year with “Bulletproof”, a more energetic but also, frankly, a more in-your-face tune, she seems to have revised her musical priorities and she opted for a more soulful approach. Taking no shortcuts with “Blow The Blue Away” might be a more long-term strategy, but it is also much more fitting for Diya’s delicate and soothing voice.

With the intricately crafted warm atmosphere, mellow sounds and the soft way of expressing emotions, Diya has a chance to impress fans of such singers as Enya or Dido. That’s not bad, so I would give her a few years to develop her voice, and her own sound, to see if this prediction has any chance of become reality. For now, let’s just enjoy this calming, relaxing tune, and feel the evening warmth giving us a huge, fluffy hug. I definitely need one, do you?

  1. The way she sings pre-chorus reminds me a bit the ones from Ariana Grande’s “Problem”. 😀 Nice song overall, and recording such things at 14-year old is very impressing.
