Mixing jazz with futuristic electronic sounds, here is the debut single by Yazata, “Promises”. This thought-provoking fusion of seemingly distant vibes makes perfect sense in this curious tune. When you can hear sounds of a clavichord and sci-fi-ish syntesisers combined in the same track, you know that the author is on to something. And this is the case here.
The experimental nature of “Promises” still keeps a jazzy structure while making it emerge from this genre into an open field of sounds where everything seems to be possible. Not too bad for a debut single, huh?
Lyrically, Yazata’s interests are focused on struggling and dysfunctional relationships, the ones full of promises, and very little to offer as far as real emotions go. This story-telling, partially submerged in vocoder processing, makes it consistently fascinating. A very good starting point, but hopefully the bar was not set too high in anticipation of more music, which I am personally looking forward to with a lot of expectations.
