I do have to say, I miss classic/vintage RnB and the neo soul from the turn of the century. They don’t make them songs like they used to, which is sad. From D’Angelo, to Erykah Badu, to Jill Scott, that unmistakable vibe accompanied me many an evening over the years. Nostalgia can be an annoying feeling, but it also makes you appreciate those classic acts for their creative work, meaningful lyrics, and the nightly moods, relaxing, and honestly emotional.
So, here comes PS Joey and his short tune, titled “Yeah I Said It”. And we are immediately thrown back to circa 2001. Blessed 2001. Great time for classic soul which, these days, seems so under-appreciated. If it has no dance beat, it does not roll, as we’re so demanding here in 2026, and so entitled to not having our time wasted by real music.
Anyway, rant over. PS Joey – great voice, one of those classic ones, like Maxwell or D’Angelo. An independent artist who self-funds all his artistic and marketing efforts. The sign of the times, I guess (oh, hello Prince). But, at the same time, one of the most inspiring and brutally honest songs I have heard this summer so far. A minimalistic beat, gentle strokes of piano, and this fuzzy feeling of lingering drama. Well, you know the drill.
Getting older is a privilege, so I’m not complaining. Getting sentimental about music which touched you in the past is yet another perk. “Yeah I Said It” brings a lot of that, and more. A beautiful vocal performance and gut-punching lyrics. I wish there was more music like this available these days, but maybe that’s all there is. Which is also fine. It makes you appreciate it even more. So, I do. Press play and drift away. You should try it, too.
