A remix – the art of transformation – has always fascinated me as a form of expression. With the work of one artist, reimagined by another, it is a combination of influence and inspiration blended with pure creativity. Granted, not remixes are great or imaginative enough. But there are also those that bring a breath of fresh air into an already existing piece of sonic art. And this is exactly the case with “Beacon”, a Monolink track from his critically acclaimed album, “The Beauty Of It All”. Carefully deconstructed and re-pieced together by a Brazilian DJ and producer, Curol.
“Beacon” is one of my favourite tracks from Monolink’s most recent LP, so I was happy to hear it was getting an Afro House-infused makeover. A track, already close to perfection, gains a different life with Curol’s remixing skills. Bringing more energy and some hypnotic magic, it becomes an invitation to dance. Yet, it does not lose its original, quite melancholic quality. To the contrary, it enriches it beautifully with an arpeggiated synthesiser bridge, almost too short, brilliantly short, making you go back and listen to it again and again, a number of times.
With “Beacon” already established as one of the most listened to tracks from “The Beauty Of It All”, the remix made by Curol re-confirms its continuous potential to impress and inspire. So, here’s an invitation to dive in to the new sonic world created by the Monolink-Curol creativity. A warning though – one listen might not be enough, now that this addictive stuff has a life of its own.
