Despite my very eclectic music taste, I have been noticing this as a pattern lately. The music I listen to, and the music I make – two completely different things. As a producer and a composer, I tend to focus on harsher, darker sounds and on more angry, heavy vibes. That’s just me and my emotions trying to get out. On the other hand, the music I choose to listen to lately is all about calm and introspection. Which on its own is nothing bad. I do need to relax, after all.
Example? The debut album by Annahstasia, “Tether”, which premiered last Friday, 13th June. A collection of eleven beautifully poetic stories, with an amazingly unique vocals and, well, acoustic, almost folky arrangements which make me feel like I am melting down every time I listen to them. Not a single electronic sound, at least not in a predominant way. Just beauty and, frankly, I feel like it’s one of the best albums I have heard so far this year. If you have 43 minutes and 27 seconds, please, please, give it a good listen.
So, my question, my fellow music producers, is about this duality I have described in the opening paragraph. Do you ever find your musical personality split from that of you as a music listener? And if yes, how do you feel about it? I, personally, on a creative level, find it very curious and would love to hear your opinion. Not a validation of my “normality”, but just your honest opinion 🙂 Thank you!

Opinion Zone – in this new series, I will be asking you, both producers and listeners, about your opinion on many music-related matters. If you feel like pitching in, I would be more than happy to start a discussion in the comments section. No hate, no judgement, just an open and honest conversation.
