Nü “Mama”

Meet Nü, a French singer-songwriter based in Lisbon. With an eclectic range of musical interests, her recordings offer a breath of fresh air, which makes her stand out from similar Artists and, if you give her a chance, she will really pique your interest.

Coming from her debut EP, “First Round”, here is “Mama”. This deeply personal tune about deficient boundaries and their consequences throughout life, it begins with detuned synths, which introduce a mysterious atmosphere between the electronic music and a slightly “folkloric” melody of the vocals. Referenced to as “bossa”, with its emotional meaning and the lingering sadness, it actually gives a bit of a fado vibe. Totally understandable since Nü must have soaked up a lot of Portuguese culture while living in Lisbon for over a decade.

With its blend of modern and traditional influences, “Mama” is so much more than just a trip hop inspired song. The multilayered arrangement continuously jumps from one vibe to the other, slightly reminiscing of what could be a new Smoke City tune. It also goes in line with Nü’s approach to live itself – having several lives in one, and never getting fed up with exploring, learning or creating.

And if you give the entire EP a go, which I strongly recommend, let me know in the comments which song you have found most intriguing.

Assento is my favourite. Although the entire EP is really worth listening.

    • Hello Anne, thanks for your comment. Very true, each song on this EP is worth attention.

If I was to choose one for me, it would be “Adult.Era” – loving the string arrangement on this one! 🙂

  2. Nice track. The last seconds of the song caught my attention and I realized they sound like the ones in “Wypijmy za błędy” and now I can’t unhear it. 😁

    Cheers
