Mina is a vocalist and a producer based in Brooklyn. That’s it. Somehow, I feel that the mystery behind the person and her song must be part of a carefully designed image. I like mysteries, though, so I am all in.
Mina’s first single, “Isn’t All I Wanted For” has just premiered everywhere and it is an introduction to her debut EP, entitled “Disobey”. It emanates a powerful trip hop and downtempo energy, embroidering the entire vibe with occasional flavours of the early Hooverphonic songs. Yes, that’s a compliment. A fully deserved one, I might add, as the atmosphere of this little gem, warm and atmospheric, feels like something well known and yet enigmatic at the same time.
If this is the 21st century’s response to the 90s genre, which as you might have noticed I cherish dearly, then give me more, here and now!
