Eli Lev “My Wish Was You”

I find folk music to be a cozy and chilly antidote to heatwave, just like the one we are currently experiencing here where I am. There is something soothing in the delicate strokes of an acoustic guitar’s strings that make them feel like the nicest and calmest remedy. A breath of cooler air along with a light story-telling which relaxes the mind.

My choice today is a song by Eli Lev. This folk-pop artist based in Silver Spring, Maryland, has recently released a heart-warming song called “My Wish Was You”. Its what-if-style lyrics tell a story of a love that could have happened but it has not. It is not a sad, heart-breaking tune, though, which has drawn me to it in the first place. “I wish my wish came true”, sings Eli in the chorus. “I happy that my wish was you.”

There is so much beauty in simply accepting what love brings us along the way. Happy or sad, the little experiences, or big experiences, complete the complicated puzzle of our lives. Eli reminds us about that without clichés, without unnecessary sentimentalism. Just pure, crystal-clear love that was not bound to be, that never happened, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

“My Wish Was You” is a preview of Eli’s upcoming album, “Past Lives”. Due to be released on the 8th October 2025, it is part of a series called “Three Worlds Project”. Meant to be the bridge between memory and melody, Eli achieves that by using the actual voices of his ancestors to illuminate the stories that shaped him. Totally worth waiting for and I hope you just got as hooked as I have!

  1. I agree, it’s very calming and charming, good for upcoming autumn (how is it possible that autumn is coming, when it feels like summer has just started??).
    Cheers. 😀

    • Climate change 😉 But yeah, I really like how this song wraps you up in some sonic cottonwool protection and just let’s you unwind 🙂
